Brian
Peterson has practiced law in Alberta for 25 years.
Today, his practice principally involves defending clients facing
criminal and quasi-criminal charges, as well as representing individuals
before professional and administrative tribunals.
His courtroom experience is grounded in 17 years of prosecutions
with the Edmonton Crown Prosecutors= Office, during which time he handled some of their most serious and
high profile cases. He was
twice elected as the president of the Alberta Crown Attorneys Association.
Mr. Peterson also brings to the firm further experience through his work
with the Federal Department of Justice, where he conducted drug and tax
prosecutions and was adviser to the Integrated Proceeds of Crime Unit.
Additionally, he has been an appointed wire tap agent and a Native liaison
prosecutor.
Mr. Peterson
has also served as a full-time instructor at the University of Alberta Law
School during the 1996-97 year, teaching Criminal Law, Forensic Medicine,
and Criminal Advocacy, and continued as a sessional instructor for a
further two years. He
continues to serve the Law School as the Law Society representative on the
Law Faculty Council at the University of Alberta. For the past 5 years he
has also been an instructor for the Legal Education Society of Alberta at
the Bar Admission course.
He is also
presently serving in his second term as an elected Bencher of the Law
Society of Alberta, the body which governs the legal profession in
Alberta. In addition to his
service as a Bencher, Mr. Peterson is a member of the Criminal Trial
Lawyers Association (CTLA), a past member of the executive of the Criminal
Justice subsection of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and has been a
panelist and instructor to groups including the CTLA, CBA, Alberta Medical
Association, Native Counselling Services, and the Canadian Association of
Journalists. He was appointed Queen=s
Counsel in 2002.
Brian
Peterson is also active within the larger community. He has been the
President of the Edmonton SPCA, Co-founder and Chair of Noah=s Auction in support of the SPCA, Vice-president of the Brookview
Community Association, an indoor and outdoor soccer coach for U-8 and
U-10, an Alberta Alpine volunteer and of course, involved in Pringle &
Associates frequent charity fund raisers.
Lawyers with
the breadth of Brian Peterson=s experience are rare. He is an experienced, respected and senior
criminal lawyer. He has the special advantage of knowing the practice of
criminal law from both sides, the prosecution and the defence. As a
seasoned litigator with a wealth of experience, he brings rich perspective
